I love that you have created such an advanced Virtual Desktop program, and I am excited to get to know it better, however I am having a problem getting started with some basic features. I am used to a very archaic vertual desktop program where a series of boxes simply display on your toolbar, each box represents 1 desktop and each box is the same as every other box (setting such as background). In this type of environment I like to bring up different programs in each of my 6 boxes and simply click between them.
Now I am willing to change, I love that I can hotkey my desktops and it sounds like I can set up separate wallpaper on each one. That is lovely. However I can't figure out how to set up my 6 desktops and have them AutoRun. I have read the FAQ and the message board but when I tried to create a new desktop my start bar and such didn't copy to it... there was no way to function on it. ( I did play with both the virtual desktop and the new desktop features.)
Ultimately I would like to set up about 6 Desktops. Four of which will have an application running on them daily, the other two I use as extra work space.
I know there are SO many variables to this request... which is why I am having trouble. Any help you can give me would be great.
So... first we know that we must make VDT first use easier; we will try to do it shortly through wizards. Your question is really useful for us as we now know what new users want to do quickly .
To manage AutoRun, use the Desktops Explorer. Go to the "When a user logs on ..." node, and then to the node with your name. Right click here and use the contextual menu to enable AutoRun. To execute the AutoRun, either log off and on, or right click the AutoRun node with your name and choose "Execute".
To help you (and other users!), we just added an AutoRun sample within our setup program; download the latest version and reinstall. Don't forget to enable AutoRun.
This sample creates 4 desktops (2 virtual and 2 non virtual), each of them running one software. The sample displays too 4 icons within the notification area (left double click an icon to switch to the desktop). Always remember that: 1) All virtual desktop's programs are displayed too within the default desktop. 2) The switch popup that is displayed when you switch to a desktop has a contextual menu that allows to manage the desktop (you can for example quickly add an existing window to a virtual desktop). 3) The Windows taskbar is (by default) displayed within any virtual desktop, but, as the Explorer is (by default) not executed into (non virtual) desktop, the Windows taskbar is not displayed.
To create your own desktops and programs, you can copy/paste these samples using the Edit menu in the Desktops Explorer.
I hope that this will help you. If we didn't understand correctly your question, if you have other questions or if you want more support, continue on this forum.
