Combine open screens but not on default desktop
Permalink Closed

I find it annoying that when I open apps on a virtual desktop they also appear on the default desktop. For example, you start working on something then find you need to break away to find something else out. You move to a virtual desktop and open the research documents but when you return to the default it is cluttered with the new virtual desktop information so you might just as well have opened the research programs on the original desktop! It is useful to have a screen where everything can be found but couldn't it be a separate desktop created just for that purpose?

As you said, we need to have a desktop where you can find everything and we chose the default one. Initially, we considered that this desktop can be excluded from the virtual screen if the user finds it useless or disturbing. But you're right, this is perhaps not really smart and we will take your suggestion into consideration.

Your solution (take the default desktop out of the virtual screen) is what you must do at this time (you can always use the Windows+Alt+Home hotkey to switch back to it).

We know that displaying all windows within the default desktop is annoying, but we must keep in mind that some users may want to stop VDT and find again all their running programs in the default dektop.

We will try to find a solution, but we're currently working on translations read-over, and this takes so many time :(

The tactic of letting windows pile up on the default desktop while you work in a series of virtual windows is workable, but you could make it easier.

Yes, the default desktop gets to look like the inside of an opossum's pouch. The answer is to ignore the default desktop, and the  brilliant idea of taking it out of the virtual screen makes this tactic even more practical.

Another piece that would help a lot would be the ability to close a virtual desktop WITHOUT closing or destroying the processes -- windows -- displayed there.

I defined a "Quicky" scenario to create a new, empty virtual window to something quick in. I'd like to kill Quicky when I've finished my quicky, but have the option to let at least some of the imported applications survive.

I know, I can use the desktops explorer to move those processes somewhere else and then kill the window, but that is a lot of work. I paid for this machine so it could work for me, not so that I could do things it should be able to do on a single command.

Thanks.
