I have the application Newsleecher.exe set to autorun upon login and creaqtion of a virtual window called "usenet.' On startup the program is started, but it is not available in the specified window. The Tasks Manager tool finds its window "Hidden" on the default desktop.
Fortunately, Tasks Manager has the tools to display the window on the current page, so it is easy to fix. Is there some way to avoid this extra step?
This particular program is avalable as a trial at www.newsleecher.com/
When you say AutoRun, do you mean Windows' AutoRun or VDT AutoRun (virtual desktop created, and Newsleecher as program in this virtual desktop)?
If you're talking about Windows' Autorun, it is normal that the program doesn't appear in a new virtual desktop. To automatically add it to a virtual desktop, the easiest way is to define a rule for this desktop. Go to the desktop's properties and then to the last tab (Rules). Add a rule based on program's path.
Nope, I mean VDT's Autorun -- the entry for my username under "When any user logs on ...."
After posting my original comment, I learned that this is not a newsleecher-only issue. Newsleecher is set up to run in a new virtual window called "Usenet" created at log on. However, MS Word 2003 is set to run under a a new virtual window called "A Word Window" created at log on. At start up and log on, I can watch both programs start in the default desktop, but both of those new virtual windows (and their taskbars) are empty, and the programs are running in the default desktop.
I am using 2.51 (well, I am downloading 2.51.1 as I write this). My previous version was 2.40, and I don't remember it behaving this way.
By the way, thanks for the autorun update in 2.51.1 -- it is something I have wanted for a long time.
Can you send me a copy of your AutoRun settings to support@R2d2-Software.com?
To do so, use the Desktops Explorer to drag and drop your AutoRun to the Scenarios node, and then save to a vdt file. Send me this file so I can check your settings (I think I'm not using the same settings than you so I cannot reproduce the problem).
If you use the AutoUpdate feature, don't forget to do first a backup of your AutoRun settings.
I downloaded NewsLeecher, but this program is one of these programs that have a "strange" (but probably with reasons) behaviour.
But first let me explain how VDT works with processes. When VDT runs a program in a virtual desktop through AutoRun, it executes this program and immediately add it to the virtual desktop (based on the process number).
The problem with NewsLeecher is that it is not a single process that is executed. A first hidden process is executed, and this process runs another process that displays its window. So VDT adds the first (hidden) process, but doesn't know that there is a second process that must be added (VDT cannot know the process number of the second one).
To display NewsLeecher windows in your virtual desktop, you can keep your AutoRun settings as now, but you must add a rule to the virtual desktop (last tab in virtual desktop's properties) in order to add all windows that belong to the program that contains NewsLeecher.exe.
